About Lowcountry Etiquette

Founded in December 2022, Lowcountry Etiquette was established by Beverly Sumner and her two daughters, Grayson LeVeen and Price Sigal, with a mission to teach children lifelong manners through engaging etiquette classes.

But the story of Lowcountry Etiquette began long before its founding.

A Family Tradition Since 1967

The roots of our program go back to 1967, when Beverly’s mother, Sudie Wilson, founded the Junior Assembly of Rock Hill in South Carolina. A Richmond, Virginia native, Sudie had grown up attending a dance club that combined ballroom dancing with social etiquette. Drawing from that experience—and inspired by programs she researched in Richmond—she launched a cotillion-style program for middle schoolers focused on dancing, social graces, and good manners.

Sudie’s dedication to manners education led her to help establish Junior Assemblies in Shelby, NC and Spartanburg, SC as well.

When Sudie retired in 1989, she encouraged Beverly to “carry on the family tradition.” Beverly did just that by co-founding the Junior Assembly of Gastonia, which continues to teach ballroom dancing, dinner etiquette, and social skills to this day.

After moving to Charleston, SC in 2022, Beverly and her daughters decided to extend this legacy to the Lowcountry—and so, Lowcountry Etiquette was born.
